Calendar for John Winters & Friends
Hello my friends,
I hope you are all staying safe and doing well throughout this pandemic. Since the statewide shutdown in the middle of March, I have given very serious thought to the re-opening of businesses, as I know you all must be doing also.
Considering the world-wide events in early March, before the shutdown, I was getting very uncomfortable with the large crowds on St. George Street and had decided not to continue playing under those conditions. I believe the City of St. Augustine did the right thing in extending the alcohol sales ban to the restaurants downtown, as it essentially shut down the heavy influx of tourists. Along with cancelling all the large events, I truly believe it was the reason we have had so few Covid-19 deaths in our county. However, by re-opening, even with "restrictions" in place, I feel a return to large crowds downtown is inevitable, and as you probably have noticed in your own communities, not everyone is being careful and considerate with masks and social distancing.
Because I have family members and friends who are considered "high risk" who I could inadvertently expose to the virus by interacting with crowds, I've decided that I won't be returning to gigs along St. George Street for the foreseeable future. If and when other restaurants I work with in the county open back up, I'll decide whether I find it safe to return to gigs there or not.
Believe me, I'm looking forward to a time when all of this is behind us and our lives can return to "normal", whatever that might be. In the meantime, I really will miss seeing you and hope that all of you and your families and friends remain safe and well.
Yours in music,
